How an early BC election would happen
BC has a fixed election date, but Elections BC explains that an election can come earlier if the government decides to call one or loses the confidence of the Legislative Assembly. Elections BC also says a Fall 2026 election would run slightly longer than a scheduled one, to allow more time for nominations, voter registration and office setup, while keeping voting day on a Saturday. It has promised an updated calendar in early 2027.
At the 2024 general election (October 19, 2024) the NDP won 47 of 93 seats, a one-seat majority, (results summary). Party standings in the Legislature have changed since, and two new parties, CentreBC and OneBC, now appear in polling. For current seat standings use the Legislative Assembly of BC.
